Go Green This Week in Asheville!

Asheville 4 Seasons Realty

There are a few great ways to go green this week in Asheville!  Whether you are feeling the luck of the Irish, or are hoping to become more green in your home; we wanted to share with you a few ways to do so!

Asheville is getting ready to join in the celebration of the beautiful country of Ireland and is showing its Celtic spirit throughout the week.  Over ten percent of those living in Asheville can trace their lineage back to Irish ancestors; which gives them a notable reason to celebrate this coming Thursday.  However, whether you’re Irish, or just enjoy a pint of Guinness; you’ll have fun joining in the festivities this St. Patrick’s Day in Asheville.

Here are a few highlights of events that are taking place!

St. Paddy’s Day Celebration at White Horse Black Mountain

As you gear up to celebrate the Green Isle this week; you may want to also consider other options for going green!  As Asheville Real Estate agents, we enjoy helping people find the home that best fits their needs and lifestyles, but we also encourage taking every opportunity to make your home eco-friendly.

Not every green choice you make will mean a complete home remodel.  There are some very inexpensive and easy ways to make your Asheville home great for the environment!  While seemingly small, these changes can save you energy and money in your Asheville home!

1. Set the Timer- Set your thermostat to lower temperatures while you’re away from your Asheville home or while you’re sleeping. This will automatically help reduce energy used as well as costs just by programming your thermostat.

2. Let the Sunshine In- During the day, be sure to leave blinds and curtains open to let in the sunlight and natural heat. At night, shut them to help “trap” the warmth.

3. Stop Leaks- Check all doors and windows for drafts. You can easily seal windows and doors to prevent the warm air from your Asheville home escaping while making sure the cool air doesn’t leak in.  In the summer, it will also prevent your air conditioner from working twice as hard.

4. Bundle Up- Feeling chilled? Instead of turning up the thermostat, throw on a pair of socks or an extra layer. These small choices to not turn up the heat can really add up in energy savings!

5. Switch out Your Lights- From lamps to porch lights, all of your lights can be changed out for energy efficient LED lights! This change will add up to financial and energy savings!

6. Unplug- Not using an appliance? Unplug it! The Department of Energy notes that, even if appliances are not being used, they are still using energy. 40% of electricity used for your home electronics is used when they’re turned off, but still plugged in. Getting in the habit of unplugging will prove to be a smart habit in the long run!

We hope these tips spark even more ideas for making your Asheville home a little more healthy for the environment.  Not only are these changes easy to make, but are also cost effective.  You’ll notice a change in your budget and will also be doing a huge favor for the Asheville environment!

Maybe you’re not yet a resident of Asheville, but have been hoping to buy a permanent or even a vacation home in this vibrant city!  If you would like to get started with your Asheville home search or have general questions about the Asheville Real Estate market; please let us know!  We’d be happy to talk with you about all that Asheville has to offer and to help you find the home for which you’ve been searching!  Feel free to contact us anytime to get started!
