Most of us think of Labor Day as the official end of summer. Used to be that it was time to put away your summer whites & straw hats and the kids were ready to start back to school. As a mom and you’re likely to get a completely different take on the words ”labor” day.
The Department of Labor defines it as- Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. The first official Labor Day was 1882, in New York City and from there it grew into what it is today… a long weekend to relax, hang out and enjoy the last few “official” days of summer.
In keeping with the original concept of honoring those that work to keep our country’s economic well being strong, merchants have used this holiday as a time to offer great savings, designed to encourage us to shop…spend some money and support the local economy.
So with that in mind, enjoy the weekend and don’t forget to support those who work so hard to make Asheville such an interesting place to live. Visit some of the local fairs, The Applefest in Hendersonville, http://www.ncapplefestival.org/ LAAFF in downtown Asheville- http://lexfestasheville.com/. Or just come on downtown, hang out, catch the Asheville Symphony at the new Pack Square on Monday, support our local businesses and make some new friends. I’ll thank you on advance for helping our local economy and, don’t forget, this really is a great time to consider investing in real estate.
